Not so Jolly Roger

A fireman could face prosecution for flying a Jolly Roger flag outside his home, Mole Valley District Council has said.

David Waterman, 41, faces possible legal action for refusing to remove the skull and crossbones he hoisted for his daughter's pirate-themed eighth birthday party.

The father of four was ordered to take it down after complaints from a neighbour because it breaches regulations controlling advertising, but he says he is now determined to keep it up and is paying £95 to apply for advertising consent for the £5 flag at his home in Ashtead, Surrey.
