Man celebrates 40th birthday floating along the Thames in a rubber ring to raise money for charity

An IT company boss celebrated his 40th birthday by floating along the Thames in a rubber ring to raise money for charity.

Because he weighs nearly 20 stone, Jonathan Palmer used a lorry inner tube for the event - and an oar to help him steer.

He set off from Richmond Lock in south-west London and ended up two and a half hours later at Chiswick Pier in west London, six miles away.
