Royal Opera House to perform their first Twitter opera

The venerable boards of the Royal Opera House (ROH) could soon be trodden by a hero imprisoned in a tower by birds hell-bent on revenge, a talking ginger cat and a mysterious woman with no name working in a biochemistry laboratory.

The ROH invited users of the micro-blogging website Twitter to write an opera, line by line, in “tweets” of 140 characters or less, and the first scene of the first act is now complete.

When the work is finished, excerpts will be set to music and performed at the ROH in London’s Covent Garden.
