An NHS governor resigned “incandescent with rage” after a primary care trust pledged to spend £1 million to help towards gritting roads, it was revealed.

Kath Toward quit in protest at County Durham PCT’s decision to allocate the money to Durham County Council in an effort to help prevent accidents.
