IN the glorious history that is Liverpool FC in Europe, Wednesday’s result must rank fairly high as being one of the best.
Though we have a tough game for the second leg, and complacency will be the last thing on Rafa’s mind, we can surely have a few days wallowing in delight at a very professional and successful performance.
There were a huge amount of positives to take from the game, particularly with the weekend’s negative publicity.
The team spirit was strong and there for all to see when we would have been happy with a draw or a 1-0 defeat.
Barca weren’t at their best, but there were periods of play from the Catalans that showed why they are reigning champions.
Liverpool were resolute in defence and quick to counter, giving what I think is one of our best ever results in European competition.
Not once did our heads drop, and following Deco’s goal it became obvious we could get something from the match.
That it would be Craig and John Arne that provided the goals is an irony that Alanis Morrisette would have killed for.
Anfield will be filled with excitement, songs and passion in a fortnight, and if we keep our nerve we can complete the job.
With the run-in underway, every game is a big one, and the United game looms large in the next week.
