Moore: Loan youngsters to us and they will improve

Ronnie Moore

TRANMERE ROVERS manager Ronnie Moore has urged Premiership clubs such as Liverpool and Everton to make greater use of the loan system to aid their younger players’s development.

Moore says he has sympathy with the concerns of his Liverpool counterpart Rafael Benitez, who complains that Anfield fringe players are inadequately served by a limited programme of reserve team fixtures. But, Benitez’s suggestion that the Premiership’s reserve teams could be incorporated into the divisions of the Football League has no prospect of getting off the ground, in Moore’s view.

The Prenton Park manager believes clubs like Liverpool should look instead at the benefits of releasing more of their youngsters on loan deals to Football League clubs.

Moore said: “I don’t think the idea of Premiership reserve teams playing in the Football League is ever going to happen.

“But the loan system can help the situation for the Premiership clubs. Why don’t they let their reserves play for the likes of us at Tranmere?

“Why don’t they give their young players the chance to learn the game that places like Prenton Park?”

Moore’s attempts to recruit Premiership players on loan during Tranmere’s current League One campaign often ended in frustration.

He said: “I have been knocking on Premiership doors to get players to come here on loan and it’s hard.

“Because we are from League One rather than the Championship, some big clubs won’t let their players come here.

“But we know what we are doing. No-one should worry about sending kids here.

“We will send them back as better players, not worse. You just have to look at who is in charge and the results we get.”
