THERE was a meeting of Brendan Rodgers’ past and present at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
But it’s surprising how little owed directly to the Northern Irishman’s work in the transfer market.
Of the 14 players who turned out for Swansea, only four – reserve goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel, Leon Britton, Wayne Routledge and substitute Kemy Agustien – were signed by Rodgers.
And of the 13 Liverpool players who appeared, only one – Joe Allen – was bought on his approval.
Of course, the Anfield manager will hope such a ratio increases significantly in the New Year with the return of Fabio Borini and the arrival of much-needed reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Rodgers, though, intimated at the weekend there may not be as much movement as expected, having previously anticipated “two or three” new attacking faces. That might be the Liverpool manager being cute with Fenway Sports Group, putting the pressure on them to come up with the goods. The Anfield faithful will surely hope so.
