ARSENE WENGER is certainly polarising opinion at the Emirates at the moment.
The Frenchman is totally adored and revered by the shareholders because he makes them money, with Arsenal having made a conscious decision that they aren’t going to go bankrupt by giving themselves a better chance of winning a trophy or two.
But the problem now is supporters are accusing the manager of lacking ambition.
Seeing Arsenal languishing in mid-table is definitely an odd sight during the Premier League era.
I still think the Gunners will qualify for the Champions League; they have too much quality and nous to miss out.
But like Chelsea, they are a team that has to play well to win. They can’t play badly and sneak a result like perhaps Manchester United and City can.
Chelsea will hope to change than when John Terry and Frank Lampard are back. Arsenal, though, are completely rudderless and characterless.
Wenger says he wants to strengthen in January, but he could be in a difficult position. Players get paid so much these days, that they want medals – not just a big wedge of cash. And if that’s the case, why go to the Emirates?
