Liverpool’s last five home league games against Swansea

The Swans kept their first-ever clean sheet at Anfield as a certain Brendan Rodgers caught the eye of Liverpool’s owners by guiding the visitors to a hard-earned draw. However, it was only guaranteed by Michel Vorm’s late save from Glen Johnson and Andy Carroll hitting the bar from close range.

Bob Paisley’s side continued their march to the championship by sending the Swans nearer to the drop. Ian Rush, Sammy Lee and substitute David Fairclough all scored with the visitors handing a full debut to 18-year-old Colin Pascoe – now Liverpool’s assistant manager.

The day after Bill Shankly’s funeral, former Anfield striker John Toshack stripped off to reveal a Liverpool shirt before almost guiding his Swans to victory. A Leighton James spot kick and a Bob Latchford strike put the visitors ahead before two Terry McDermott penalties sealed a draw.

Shankly’s men moved eight points clear at the top of Division Two with a thumping victory over their Welsh rivals. Goalless at half-time, Jimmy Melia scored twice in four minutes after the restart while Roger Hunt helped himself to a hat-trick.

Dec 1960 Liverpool 4 Swansea 0

Another comprehensive victory for Liverpool, who remained second in the race for promotion to the top flight. Kevin Lewis set them on their way and Alan A’Court netted a second by half-time before Lewis scored again and Dave Hickson completed the rout.
