CHESTER CITY last night awarded first-year professional contracts to two of their promising midfielders.
Birkenhead-born Glenn Rule and Merseysider Andy Mitchell both penned deals after impressing manager Simon Davies in recent months.
Rule and Mitchell, who were used as second-half substitutes in last Saturday’s final League Two match of the campaign against Macclesfield, have been regulars in City’s Pontin’s League side this season and are graduates of Chester’s impressive school of excellence.
City director Bob Gray said last night: “Both players have made tremendous strides this season and Simon (Davies) was keen to get them signed up.”
Both the youngsters are 18-year-olds.
Chester will have talks with their out-of-contract central defender Paul Linwood this week.
Linwood has had an exceptional season and won the club’s player of the year awards, which were presented to him prior to last weekend’s game against Macclesfield.
It is understood that Davies sees Linwood as an integral part of his plans for the forthcoming campaign, which starts in early August.
Davies will have talks with the club’s other out of contract players later this week as he formulates his squad for next season.
City are expected to announce details of season ticket pricing for the 2008-09 season later this week.
Meanwhile, the club’s Supporters Trust will hold their AGM at the Home Guard Club in Canal Street, Chester, on Thursday, May 22.
The event starts at 8pm.
