Players set to learn their fate at Chester

CHESTER CITY manager Simon Davies will sit down with his players tomorrow and inform them whether or not they figure in his plans for next season.

Philip Palethorpe, Simon Marples, Paul Linwood, Sean Hessey, Kevin Sandwith, Dean Bennett, Tony Grant, and Simon Yeo, all come to the end of their existing deals at the end of next month and Davies will meet with them on an individual basis. Davies and club owner Stephen Vaughan took the first team squad and members of the club’s staff to Chester Races yesterday.

Director Bob Gray said: “It has been an extremely tough season, and this was a gesture from Mr Vaughan to say thank you to everybody.

“The players will be off on Thursday and then come in on Friday, to be told about our future plans. When we have met them all, we will officially issue our retained list.”

Meanwhile, City have been linked with the former Tranmere defender Carl Tremarco, and Bangor City striker Ashley Stott. Tremarco, who is a free agent, finished last season at Wrexham, and has been offered terms for next season by the Welsh Blue Square Premier outfit. Stott, who is a former Preston North End trainee, was Bangor’s leading scorer, and a member of the side who lifted the Welsh Cup last weekend.

Bob Gray said: “I am aware of the specula-tion, but at the moment that is all I am prepared to say. It is speculation.”

Two former Chester players have been awarded player of the season awards at their respective clubs. Ex-City defender Danny Collins won the fans accolade at Sunderland.

Striker Jon Walters won the Ipswich Town supporters club player of the year award earlier this week.

The 24-year-old Birkenhead-born striker is reportedly a target for Premier League clubs Middlesbrough and newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion.
