Chester aiming to recruit further

CHESTER CITY are hoping to bolster their under-achieving playing squad prior to Saturday’s home game against Barnet.

City have yet to register a point this season, losing all three of their opening matches, as well as conceding 11 goals.

Striker Eddie Johnson and French forward Jean Louis Akpro are currently training with Chester, and it is understood that a defender with Football League experience is also under consideration.

Chester chief executive Bob Gray said: “Simon Davies knows where he needs to strengthen and we are working hard to try and fill the gaps he has identified.”

Meanwhile, City manager Davies has been talking about the possibility of former manager Mark Wright returning to the Deva.

City owner Stephen Vaughan held talks last week with Wright.

“I am aware that the owner has spoken to Mark Wright,” he said.

“I am a young manager and a young coach, and I recognise that I have a tough job, so I would welcome some guidance from someone as experienced as him.”

Davies added: “I have been giving the manger’s job 110% since I’ve been here, and unfortunately it’s not been happening.

“A move to appoint Mark Wright could have a similar effect to what has happened down at Bristol Rovers, where Lennie Lawrence is director of football. A smaller club like Chester would definitely benefit.”

It is understood that talks are still at an early stage, and are expected to be held over the weekend.
