CHESTER CITY midfielder Paul Rutherford last night held talks with Blue Square Premier club Northwich Victoria about a possible move to the Mid Cheshire outfit.
The 21-year-old Merseysider, who recently had a trial with AFC Bournemouth, hasn’t figured in the City first team this season and if the move to Northwich is concluded, it would give the player the regular football he is seeking.
If Rutherford does make the move across the county, Chester would sign the ex-Bradford City striker Eddie Johnson after agreeing terms with the player yesterday.
Because of salary-capping regulations, Chester have to move a player on before they can bring another into the club.
Twenty-three-year-old Johnson started his playing career with Manchester United. where had loan spells with Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra, prior to joining Bradford City in the summer of 2006.
Johnson has agreed a two year contract with Chester and he is expected to fill the void left by John Murphy who joined Eircom League club St Patrick’s Athletic earlier this month.
Chester report a clean bill of health as they prepare for tomorrow’s Coca-Cola League Two match against fellow strugglers Barnet at the Deva Stadium.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Chester City player Andy Nicholas has joined Rotherham United after agreeing a two year deal.
Nicholas played five games on loan for City when he was a Swindon Town player four years ago.
