Chester hold talks with potential buyers of club

CHESTER CITY owner Stephen Vaughan has held talks with representatives of S1Sport.com who have indicated an interest in possibly acquiring the Coca-Cola League Two club.

S1Sport.com, who are suppliers of sports equipment products, held talks recently with the directors of troubled AFC Bournemouth about a possible takeover, but negotiations broke down, after a reported £1.5m bid was lodged.

Businessmen Neale Marmon and Mark Palmer represented the prospective purchasers of the Deva Stadium outfit, and following the talks, Vaughan said: “We will comment at a later date about the discussions, however, I can reveal that we will be testing some of the company’s sportswear products, but at the moment that’s all I am prepared to reveal.”

Meanwhile Chester, who are still pointless this season, face fellow strugglers Barnet at the Deva Stadium today. One player who is likely to be involved in the game is the City midfielder Mark Hughes, who was close to joining the Londoners earlier this month, only for the move to break down at the 11th hour.

City manager Simon Davies was annoyed when the move failed to materialise. “The Barnet manager Paul Fairclough was interested in signing Mark Hughes and we gave him permission to speak to the player. But Barnet pulled the carpet from beneath Mark’s feet at the last minute, and it messed Mark up which didn’t create an ideal situation.”
