CHESTER CITY manager Mark Wright is looking forward to locking horns with a manager who was an apprentice at Southampton, when the former England central defender was emerging as one of the top defensive players of his era.
Bury, who are City’s next opponents on Saturday, are managed by Alan Knill, who himself went on to gain international recognition with Wales. Knill was a junior at The Dell when Wright was a regular fixture in the Saints side.
He said: “Bury manager Alan Knill was a youngster when I was down at Southampton.
“He has done ever so well to put a good side together at Bury, and they have done really well to get where they are in the league.
“But, he has been allowed to build his squad, and he has had a whole season to build. I came to Chester when the chips were down, and I’ve not been able to bring any players in, but players have gone, so it’s a totally different scenario to Bury.”
The City manager continued: “We have just got to continue to believe in ourselves, and hope that other results go in our favour.
“I am hoping we can find a goal from somewhere in every game we play, and then hang on in there. If we do that then we stand a chance.”
City will again be without midfielder Damien Mozika who is still troubled with a hamstring injury, whilst central defender Shaun Kelly continues to struggle with a knee injury.
