CHESTER CITY last night sensationally suspended their French midfield player Damien Mozika, for what were described as “serious breaches of club discipline.”
Mozika, who has been suffering from a troublesome hamstring injury since January, is expected to fly home to France tomorrow.
City owner Stephen Vaughan said last night: “The player has been involved in some unacceptable behaviour during the past fortnight, which are without doubt serious breaches of club discipline, and we have been left with no alternative, but to reach this decision.
“To add to the problem, the player refused to play in last weekend’s match against Bournemouth, despite being declared fit by both our club doctor and the club’s physiotherapist.”
Vaughan added: “Apparently, two clubs have shown interest in signing the player, and I wonder if this interest has been part of the motivation behind Mozika’s unacceptable behaviour. We shall be retaining the player’s registration, and having further discussions with his agent.”
Meanwhile, Chester players Jay Harris and David Mannix, who were due to answer charges of alleged illegal betting today, have been given a further two weeks to respond to the Football Association charges.
The allegations relate to a match between Accrington Stanley and Bury 12 months ago, when both players were on the Accrington payroll.
Chester are next in action on Saturday, when they face Aldershot at the Recreation Ground. City have concerns about the fitnress of defenders Shaun Kelly (knee) and Paul Linwood (calf) as well as Ritchie Partridge and Kevin Ellison who are both suffering from hamstring injuries.
