CHESTER City supporters’ representative Barrie Hipkiss last night expressed his concern, but not surprise, that the club have entered financial administration.
As the dust settles, following the weekend revelations of the Deva Stadium outfit’s financial problems, the chairman of the club’s influential Official Supporters’ Club is naturally concerned about a possible 10-point deduction being imposed in their first season back in non-League football following their relegation to the Blue Square Premier League.
Hipkiss is now hoping for some stability at the club following a turbulent season.
He said: “We are naturally all concerned but it was expected by most of the supporters and hasn’t come as a complete surprise.
“The fans want a football club that is run in a professional manner, we need stability from whoever buys the club eventually.
“The probably 10-point deduction is a concern to the fans and another worry is that there are rumours circulating that Chester may be relegated beneath the Conference Premier Division, which without doubt would result in us losing more support.
"Talk about the construction of offices and retail units at the Deva Stadium is all well and good but what this club has lacked and what it badly needs, is a professional and creative commer-cial set-up, which it hasn’t had for years.”
Hipkiss added: “These are extremely worrying times. Fans groups and ISA groups can’t afford to buy the club, what we need to see is local businessmen, who are prepared to back Chester and invest money in it.
"The fans are now waiting to see what comments the administrator makes and what he proposes to do with the club.”
It is understood that the administrator, Martin Shaw, will visit the Deva Stadium today and have discussions with the club’s staff.
