CHESTER CITY have offered their out of contract goalkeeper John Danby a new deal, as they start preparations for life in the Blue Square Premier.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper, who joined City from Kidderminster Harriers, is out of contract next month but Chester are hopeful he will accept a revised deal.
Meanwhile, City’s off-the-field problems which saw them enter financial administration last weekend, have raised question marks over the future of manager Mark Wright, because of the club’s current state of limbo.
He said: “I don’t know all the rules and regulations concerning a club in administration, but I have spoken to owner Stephen Vaughan and I know nothing is taking place at the moment.
“I can’t sign any new players or do anything at the moment because of administration and a transfer embargo but I am planning to attend a couple of meetings.
The former Liverpool and England defender added: “The administrator’s meeting with the staff at the club is very important at this moment in time.
“I faced a very difficult job in trying to get Chester clear of trouble at the foot of the table but injuries, a transfer embargo and having to play four apprentices in my side, eventually led to a situation where we were never going to get out of relegation trouble and we were always up against it.”
Chester have arranged two pre-season friendly matches. On Saturday, July 18 they travel to Marine (3pm), then on Tuesday, July 31, Welsh Premier League club Airbus (UK) have been pencilled in to visit the Deva Stadium (7.30pm).
