Chester City line up friendly with Premier League Burnley

DESPITE the scheduled meeting of creditors next Thursday, it appears to be business as usual as far as the backroom staff at Chester City are concerned.

Last night City’s management team lined up a prestigious pre-season friendly match against Premier League newcomers Burnley at the Deva Stadium.

The Lancashire club earned their place at football’s top table last month when they defeated Sheffield United in a thrilling Championship play off final at Wembley.

City secretary Tony Allan said: "Mark Wright and Simon Davies have been working hard to fix up a pre- season programme, and this fixture is something of a coup for them."

The match will be played on either Tuesday, July 28 or Thursday, July 30.

Wright has been working hard talking to players in readiness to assemble a squad for next season, however, nothing can be finalised until the outcome of the creditors and shareholders meeting next week, and the Blue Square Premier AGM two days later are known.

Meanwhile, Barrie Hipkiss the chairman of the Chester City Official Supporters Association has been talking about the crucial few days that lie ahead for the club.

He said: "Things will become clearer next week, and until then I think Chester fans should show their patience. I agree that it’s time for all the fans to unite, but unless we have all got a load of money to throw in, there isn’t much we can do until the outcome of Thursday’s meeting."

Hipkiss added: "Financially, it’s difficult to run football clubs at this level, but even after we left Sealand Road and went off to Macclesfield for two years, the club had a thriving commercial department under Anita Walker.

"Maybe that’s how supporters can help out in the future, but for the time being we have got to be patient, and wait and see what the next seven days have in store."
