Future of Chester hangs in the balance

CHESTER City enter a crucial three-day period today when the future of the troubled club will be determined.

City, who were relegated from the Football League at the end of last season, entered voluntary administration last month, with reported debts of over £7million.

A meeting of creditors will be held at the Deva Stadium at 11am, then an hour later the shareholders of the club will be advised of the outcome of the previous meeting.

Skelmersdale based insolvency practitioners Refresh Recovery Ltd, are handling the administration, with HM Revenue and Customs expected to oppose a motion to accept a resolution to creditors from the insolvency practitioners of 15p in the £.

If the resolution is passed, then City will hope to be accepted into the Blue Square Premier League at their annual general meeting on Saturday.

If today’s meeting of creditors doesn’t vote to accept the proposal by a significant majority, it could raise a major question mark over City’s future.

Meanwhile, Chester’s leading scorer Ryan Lowe completed his transfer to League Two club Bury yesterday.

The 30-year-old, who was released from his contract at the Deva Stadium following the club’s relegation last month, has signed a two-year contract with the Gigg Lane outfit.

Lowe started his career with Burscough before joining Shrewsbury Town in 2000. He joined City for his second spell last summer. Young City defender Glenn Rule has agreed to stay at the Deva Stadium for another season.
