Chester come out of administration

SUPPORTERS of Chester City can look forward to a campaign in the Blue Square Premier League next season, after the Deva Stadium outfit shook off the shackles of financial administration yesterday.

A meeting of creditors overwhelmingly agreed to except a deal which will give them 15p in the £1 and City are now free to attend tomorrow’s Football Alliance AGM in Stratford upon Avon without the stigma of a CVA hanging over them. In another development yesterday Chester have been purchased from the administrator by the Vaughan family, who now own 100% of the club’s issued shares.

Stephen Vaughan said last night: “It has been a difficult period recently, but we now must look forward and work towards a brighter future for the club.

“I want the people of Chester to get behind the club. I am still looking for potential investors to assist us, and hopefully the local business community will also get behind their club.”

Vaughan was non committal on the position of current team manager Mark Wright. He said: “Mark has been linked in one newspaper report with the vacancy at Tranmere Rovers, so I will urgently have to make a decision about the management team and who I consider best to take us forward.

“Obviously we must start to assemble a squad for next season, and I can assure our supporters that the process of acquiring players will start in the next few days.”

If they are accepted into the Blue Square Premier League tomorrow, it is expected that City will have to start next season on minus 10 points, despite the fact they are now free from financial administration.
