ST HELENS full-back Paul Wellens has backed former coach Ian Millward to prove a huge success on his return to England next year.
Millward, who won two Super League titles, two Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge in five years in charge at Saints, yesterday agreed to take over at Championship club Leigh.
The Australian first made his mark in the British game at Leigh 10 years ago before moving on to Knowsley Road and Wellens expects his impact to be similar next time around.
Wellens said: “I think Ian will be excited by the challenge.
“It is similar to when he last went there, the club was struggling and needed a big lift and he certainly gave them that.
“There is no reason why he can’t do that again and he will certainly be as ambitious as Leigh.
