CHESTER CITY are hopeful of concluding the exciting signing of Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Yantorno in the next 48 hours.
The 26-year-old South American trained with his new teammates yesterday and is due to undergo an extensive medical tomorrow.
City boss Mick Wadsworth is naturally pleased to have captured the former Gretna and Hibernian player who he was impressed with yesterday.
“Fabian looked good in the short time he trained with us,” he said. ”He had a marvellous first half to the season with Gretna in the Scottish Premier League while I was there and attracted interest from Rangers and Celtic who were both chasing his signature.
“Unfortunately, Fabian picked up a bad knee injury around Christmas time that season and was ruled out of action for the rest of the campaign.
“It took him a year to get over the injury, but he played for another Scottish League club, Hibernian, last season and he was looking to play in Mexico this coming season but he is desperate to come and play in Britain again.”
Wadsworth added: “I feel very fortunate that I was able to speak to him and that he was willing to come across and play for Chester City. He is a fantastic talent and I know he is a real crowd pleaser and crowd favourite.
“I think he will score goals as well as make goals with Chester and I know he will do well at this level of football.”
Chester completed the signing of the former Doncaster Rovers defender Tim Ryan last night.
City’s pre-season begins away at Marine next Saturday.
