Chester could take a Bower

CHESTER CITY will take a step closer to finding a solution to their central defensive concerns today when they have talks with the former Bradford City player Mark Bower.

The 29-year-old defender, who was released by the Valley Parade club in May, will train with City today and is likely to take some part in next Saturday’s friendly match against Marine at College Road.

“If he impresses the manager in training and next weekend’s practise match, then we will add him to our squad,” said City owner Stephen Vaughan.

Another player trying to earn a contract at the Deva Stadium is goalkeeper Andrew Murray. The 20-year-old, who had a spell at Preston last season, impressed City manager Mick Wadsworth in Monday’s 3-1 win at Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Midfielder David Mannix is to travel to Cyprus tomorrow for a trial with a Cypriot league outfit.

Meanwhile, former City wing-back Lawrence Wilson last night signed a two year contract with League Two club Morecambe.

Chester’s Blue Square Premier League fixture at York City, originally scheduled for February 23, has been moved to Tuesday, November 10.
