THE Chester City striker Gregg Blundell gave the club a boost when he played for 70 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Macclesfield Town at the Deva Stadium yesterday.
Blundell, who has made two cameo substitute appearances for City in the past week, has been recovering from a knee injury and City manager Mick Wadsworth was delighted that the player appeared to show no ill effects after the game.
He said: “Gregg played for most of the game and is getting back to the level of match fitness that he needs.
“The game was a good work-out and besides Gregg’s involvement, Shaun Kelly and Anthony Barry were also involved following their recent injuries.”
Chester lost the match 1-0, but Wadsworth was also pleased with the form of one of the three trialists who were involved.
He added: “One of the trialists was Andreas Andro, he played in last week’s friendly as well and he has impressed, so we will look at him again over the next couple of days before making a decision on him.”
The Argentinian is a left-sided midfielder, and is a free agent, so he would be allowed to join the Deva Stadium payroll if Wadsworth wishes to proceed with a deal.
Chester are next in League action on Saturday when they entertain Histon, at the Deva Stadium.
