CHESTER City will be aiming to record their second victory in five days when they face high-flying Stevenage Borough at the Deva Stadium tomorrow.
City defeated 10-men Gateshead on Tuesday but manager Mick Wadsworth is aware that Stevenage, who have won their last four matches, will prove to be a sterner test than the North Easterners.
He said: “We have only lost one of our last five matches, winning two and drawing two, but Stevenage will be a big test of how far we have come.
“We fared okay at Luton Town earlier in the season and for big spells against Cambridge United in our opening game but that was four weeks ago and hopefully we are a bit better now.”
Wadsworth is trying to strengthen his wafer-thin squad and has been given permission to bolster his side.
He added: “We have been trying to get people in. I am contacting Premier League clubs and a Championship club and I am waiting for them to get back to me. At the moment it is difficult to give people a rest.”
Another player who has been linked with City is the former Stockport County and Macclesfield striker Matty McNeill.
It is understood that he is to start training with the Deva Stadium outfit.
Meanwhile, the 68 Football Conference clubs have been given a cash boost by the FA Premier League, who have gifted them £1million.
Accepting the gesture Conference chairman Brian Lee said: “We are extremely grateful to the Premier League in demonstrating their support to our members at a time when our clubs are feeling the pinch, not only at the loss of our TV contract, but the decline of anticipated income due to the financial position generally.”
