Chester look to close the gap on Forest Green Rovers

CHESTER City will try to close the gap on one of the team’s just above them in the Blue Square Premier League this evening, when they face Forest Green Rovers at the Deva Stadium.

City are gradually eroding the 25 point penalty that was imposed upon them at the beginning of the season, and the Gloucestershire outfit are one of the sides they will be aiming to catch.

City were buoyed by their goalless draw against Wrexham on Sunday and a repeat of that performance could well see them gleaning a rare home victory.

Chester will be without young central defender Chris Lynch who sustained a nasty knee injury at the Racecourse, but one player who will be included is on-loan midfielder Clark Keltie, who joined City last week on a month’s deal from Rochdale.

Keltie impressed joining the game against the Welshmen, and City manager Mick Wadsworth may well be contemplating extending the temporary loan agreement. He said: “He (Keltie) was very dominant in the centre circle against Wrexham, if he does well it is quite possible that we keep him a bit longer than the month’s deal we have agreed.”

Young central defender Shaun Kelly will start the game in place of Lynch, while Anthony Barry may be available to take his places on the substitutes’ bench.

Forest Green have a had a wretched start to the season, but they recorded a rare victory at the weekend, and Wadsworth is warning his players that they could be in for a difficult match.
