New manager Jim Harvery under no illusion as to the size of the task he has at Chester City

CHESTER CITY’S new manager Jim Harvey is relishing the task ahead, despite the current punitive points deduction which is hanging over the Blue Square Premier League club like a Sword of Damocles.

Harvey hopes he can improve the existing squad with loan players, but new faces may not be in place for City’s home game against Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday.

He said: “I am under no illusions that this is a difficult job. It is obvious the squad isn’t good enough it’s as simple as that. I have been on the phone all day, trying to acquire some temporary loan players, and I am hopeful of a certain amount of success, but at the moment nothing is confirmed.”

The former Tranmere Rovers midfielder added: “I try to get my teams to play in a different style to the one that Chester have been playing, but I will have to adapt my style to the players I have. I love working with footballers and creating teams, I will certainly be giving it my best, and hopefully this will start to turn the club’s fortunes around.”

The 51-year-old Northern Irishman will have to watch Saturday’s game from the Main Stand, as he serves the final match of a three-game touchline ban, imposed when he was manager of Forest Green Rovers.
