FUTURE Stephen Gerrards and Wayne Rooneys will be appearing at Chester City’s Deva Stadium next month when City host the England v Northern Ireland Under-16s Victory Shield international.
The game will be played on Thursday, November 5 and is scheduled to be televised live by Sky.
City secretary Tony Allan said last night: “This is a great honour for the club. We played host to a similar international a few years ago and obviously the powers that be were impressed with the facilities we offer and the way we accommo-dated the game.”
Meanwhile, City manager Jim Harvey was handed more bad news on the injury front yesterday when young centre-back Kristian Platt informed the club that he had fractured his fibia in an accident at home.
Harvey said: “Apparently it was a freak accident, which will sideline him for around six weeks. With Chris Lynch and Shaun Kelly both injured, it leaves us short in the centre of defence.”
The City manager is hoping to add to his squad prior to Saturday’s visit to Gateshead but he was remaining tight-lipped about the identities of the players he had targeted. He added: “I am hopeful that I can bring three or four players to the club prior to the weekend, negotiations with the lads’ respective clubs are ongoing.”
The Football Conference Management Committee are meeting today. It is understood that one of the items on the agenda is the progress or otherwise of Chester City since they were belatedly admitted into the League in August.
