Chester manager Jim Harvey looking to add to his Chester City squad

CHESTER City manager Jim Harvey is trying to sign another player on a temporary loan basis prior to next Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Barrow.

City turned in their best performance of the campaign last weekend, when they defeated Gateshead 1-0, a victory that handed Harvey his first win since taking over the Deva Stadium hot-seat a fortnight ago.

Harvey isn’t sitting on his laurels following the showing in the North East, and he is still trying to improve the squad he inherited.

He said: “I am trying to bring another loan player to the club, and if things can be agreed, I am hopeful he will be available to us for the trip to Barrow. The player is a forward, but until things are completed I will not be naming him.”

The Chester manager also revealed that central defender Shaun Kelly would be returning to training on Thursday following his recent knee injury, and may also be available for the trip to Holker Street.

Reflecting on the weekend win at Gateshead, Harvey was full of praise for goal scoring Mark Beesley and debutantes Michael Coulson and Jonathan Flynn.

“Mark Beesley did eventually score to earn us the victory, but he had three or four other chances. Mark is very intelligent and he can find space, and he is very capable of scoring goals. He did well linking up with Anthony Barry and Clark Keltie in midfield. The two new loan players Michael Coulson and Jonathan Flynn played really well for us.

“Michael arrived with a good pedigree, but he has been making a comeback from a serious knee injury and I am delighted to have him on board. He looked a really strong character and he worked his butt off for us at Gateshead. He may be short of games, but his determination and his work-rate towards the end of the game was first class. He’s not without ability as well, and he was a real thorn in Gateshead’s side.

“Jonathan Flynn brought us a bit more height and presence. He’s only young and he’s just starting out in his career.”
