THE Football Conference last night extended the deadline for Chester City to come up with solutions relating to the payment of their outstanding football related debts.
In an unprecedented step last Wednesday, the Conference issued a statement on their website saying that City could face possible expulsion from the Blue Square-sponsored league if they didn’t reach satisfactory settlements with their creditors.
Following discussions between members of the conference management committee last night a statement was released.
It stated that all parties were working together to reach a solution to the club’s financial problems.
It went on to say that a decision regarding Chester City had been deferred until Monday, November 16, however if the club do not comply fully with the conditions set out, expulsion from the league still remains an option.
It is understood that Chester have made contact with the Football League regarding their “parachute payment”, which so far hasn’t been handed over.
A source close to the Conference stated: “The likelihood is that the discretionary monies that Chester consider are due to them would be utilised to directly pay off the outstanding football debts.”
Meanwhile, City are in FA Cup action tonight when they face Barrow in a fourth qualifying round replay at the Deva Stadium.
Chester will again be without the suspended Nick Chadwick and Glenn Rule, whilst Greg Blundell’s hamstring injury may again mean that he doesn’t make the starting line up.
