TROUBLED Chester City have been handed a further extension by the games’ governing bodies, as all parties seek a solution to the Deva Stadium outfit’s outstanding football creditors.
City were originally instructed to settle all their outstanding debts on or before October 26. This deadline was extended until yesterday by the Conference. However, the club have now been given an extra fortnight to sort the matter out and avoid possible expulsion from the Blue Square Conference.
A brief statement issuedon Saturday said: “The Football League in conjunction with the Football Conference have extended the deadline for settling the outstanding football debts owed by Chester City until Monday, November 30.”
It is understood that Chester are endeavouring to utilise monies from their discretionary Football League Parachute payment, due following the club’s relegation last season to pay off their creditors.
A transfer embargo still hangs over the club. However, if they can find the cash, Chester will be allowed to extend the temporary loan signings of defender Jonathan Flynn from Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley midfield player Michael Coulson, both players’ initial one-month loan deals finish this week.
On the field, sloppy individual errors consigned City to their second defeat in five days, as they went down 3-1 at Tamworth on Saturday.
A mistake by Anthony Barry allowed the Staffordshire outfit the opportunity to surge forward, Neil Mackenzie eventually opening the scoring with an effort from 18 yards.
Shortly after the restart, Mark Beesley equalised for the visitors, following good work between Chadwick and Coulson.
However, slack marking gifted an opportunity for Wrexham loanee Simon Brown to restore the Staffordshire side’s lead after 69 minutes.
Seven minutes later Nick Wright wrapped the points up for Tamworth, when he fired home an unstoppable effort from 20 yards.
Following the game City manager Jim Harvey reflected, “For long periods I thought we were the better side, but we didn’t convert our chances.
“Then defensive errors cost us dearly, but we need to concentrate more at crucial time.”
