CHESTER CITY manager Jim Harvey said last night as far as he is concerned it is still “business as usual” following the surprising appointment of a director of football by the club’s owners on Saturday.
Harvey was informed of the appointment of controversial former Kettering Town and Halesowen Town manager Morrell Maison less than an hour before the Boxing Day clash against Kidderminster Harriers, with many City supporters and staff perplexed by both the timing and the motives of the decision.
Harvey said: “I have spoken to Mr Maison and as far as I am concerned I continue to do the job I was taken on to do – it’s a case of business as usual.
“I haven’t spoken to the owners, but I understand that there will be further discussions between them and Mr Maison in the next day or so.”
He continued: “I am told that Mr Maison is endeavouring to bring investment to the club, and we are all aware that investment is badly needed at this point in time.”
It is unclear who will be financing the appointment of Mr Maison, or what the status of former Accrington Stanley owner Eric Whalley is.
Whalley was originally unveiled by the club as Chester’s director of football last autumn.
Many of City’s playing staff haven’t received wages that were due at the end of November, while the club’s fiscal status continues to cause concern.
Meanwhile, Harvey continues to be linked with the vacant managerial post at Kidderminster Harriers.
The vacancy arose after Mark Yates left Aggborough to join Cheltenhem Town just prior to Christmas.
CITY’S scheduled Blue Square Premier League match against Barrow at the Deva Stadium yesterday was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
