THE revolving door at crisis club Chester City continued to rotate last night, when experienced midfielder Anthony Barry had his contract terminated by mutual agreement.
Barry’s exit came 24 hours after manager Jim Harvey surprisingly parted company with the Blue Square Premier League outfit.
The 23-year-old joined City in the summer of 2008 after being released by Yeovil Town. He started his career with Everton, before spells with Coventry City and Accrington Stanley.
Barry, who has had talks with both Wrexham and Fleetwood Town, is expected to make a decision in the next day or so with the Welsh outfit the favourites to grab his signature.
With so much uncertainty at the Deva Stadium it is understood that there will be other playing departures. Youngster James Owen, defender Shaun Kelly, and striker Nick Chadwick looking as though they may follow Barry out of the Deva.
The playing squad havent been paid for two months, and with Harveys departure casting another unwelcome cloud over City, it is known that a number of the players are keen to find alternative footballing employment.
With a transfer embargo still hanging over the club, it is unclear how Chester will field a competitive squad next Saturday at Crawley Town, if other players decide to leave.
There still hasn’t been an official announcement from City about a successor to Harvey, but speculation suggests that Director of Football Morrell Maison will take over the football management role, despite an assurance from Maison in a media interview on Boxing Day that Harvey would remain in that position.
Maison is thought to be part of a consortium who are endeavouring to take over, but the future of the Cheshire outfit is the main focus of the clubs supporter base.
In another development, it is understood that Conference club Cambridge United are poised to report Chester to the authorities. The Abbey Stadium outfit still haven’t been paid for striker Mark Beesley, who had a temporary loan spell with City at the end of last year.
