TROUBLED Chester City will be hoping they see some action tonight after a layoff of over three weeks.
A lot has happened in the period since City’s Boxing Day match at Kidderminster Harriers.
Popular manager Jim Harvey has left the club, two of the first team squad have moved on to pastures new and the players’ wages still remain unpaid.
To add spice to the Deva Stadium situation, a winding up order from H.M. Revenue & Customs has come to light.
Despite all the intrigue off the field, the dwindling playing squad will endeavour to pick themselves up to face Salisbury City at the Deva this evening.
City will again be forced to field a youthful squad, with youngsters Lloyd Ellams and Ben Jones expected to lead the line.
Meanwhile, Chester have been requested to attend a meeting with the Football Conference on Thursday, when their current off the field issues will be on the agenda.
Conference general manager Dennis Strudwick said last night when asked about the impending winding up petition: “We will be taking appropriate investigative action. I can confirm we have been made aware of the latest development.”
Chester’s former managing director Bob Gray, commented: “We are still hopeful, we are still looking for potential investors, and hope to hear something positive by the end of the week.”
In another development last night, one of City’s few remaining experienced players was linked with a move away from the club.
Former Everton striker Nick Chadwick could well be poised for a move to League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
