Chester City face Football League showdown

OFFICIALS from Chester City will meet the members of the Football League management today in an attempt to persuade them to release monies that the club claim is owed to them following City’s relegation to the Conference last May.

Chester have been struggling to pay their bills in recent months, with stories of late payment to the Water Authorities, players and staff wages in certain cases outstanding for three months, and even the printer of the matchday programme refusing to release last Saturday’s publication until monies were released.

It is understood that a number of officials from the Football Conference and the Football Association are concerned about the current unsatisfactory goings on at the Deva Stadium.

City’s Director of Football Morrell Maison claims that £129,000 is due from the Football League to the Deva Stadium outfit, and he is worried about the situation.

“The League’s stance is that they will not release that money until the end of the season, because they want to make sure that the club finishes the season and completes the fixtures, and doesn’t increase the footballing debt, but that puts the club in a difficult position as it denies cash flow.”

Chester were put up for sale last month for £1, with the purchaser taking on the clubs so far unpublished debt.

Chester are due in court again on March 10th to face a winding up petition, brought by HM Revenue and Customs, the original hearing last month was adjourned.

City are in action tonight, they travel to Gloucestershire to face Forest Green Rovers in a Blue Square Premier League clash at the New Lawn.

Skipper Tim Ryan returns to the squad after completing a two match ban.
