VIEW FROM THE STANDS: Liverpool need to steamroller – not fall flat
Dec 3 2008 Liverpool Daily Post
SO the must-win game ended up 0-0 and we were left with that feeling of déjà vu again.
Weaker opponents, loads of possession yet no end product again. This was a test on many levels. Could the team deliver when not at full strength? Would certain players step up? Would we be bold enough tactically? I would have to say no to all three.
No Torres so we were looking initially to Keane. He could not make the difference. Riera tried hard but made way for Babel who did liven things up but it was too little too late.
The shortcomings of the team are obvious.
We are well organised and don’t concede many goals but if we win the Premier League it will be with a succession of 1-0 wins.
I’d take that now but it demonstrates the problem. We don’t score enough goals and we let too many teams off the hook.
You must steamroller teams at home. It has to be a given.
Speaking of giving, George Gillett was in the stands. I hope he’s come either to give Rafa some money to spend in January or sell us to someone who will.
