Gymnastics: Wallasey’s high-flyers crowned British champions

WALLASEY Gymnastics Club is celebrating major success as a pair of the clubs gymnasts were crowned British Champions.

Stephanie Rimmer, 16, and Shannon Williams, 11, beat elite athletes from all over the country to win gold at NDP grade four in acrobatic gymnastics – the highest level achievable in the British Gymnastics National Development Plan.

The club is also celebrating success as its gymnasts have recently won a total of 21 medals from two large North West Regional competitions, a haul including nine gold, five silver and seven Bronze.

All this from a club that was only established in November 2006.

The club which can now boast having 22 coaches, 11 of which, having been trained by the club’s senior club coach and two club coaches, passing their exams since January.

The club has also seen the number of gymnasts grow from 20 to more than 60, including a number of other British Champions coming to the club, and still has plans to expand further from its strong links with more than a dozen schools across the Wirral where coaches run beginner classes to more than 450 budding gymnasts.
