Jimmy Lowes leaves Salford for coaching position at Warrington

SALFORD assistant boss Jimmy Lowes has left the club to take up a coaching position with Warrington Wolves.

Former Bradford and Great Britain hooker Lowes, who recently joined the Lions backroom staff, ends a three-year association with City Reds, who appointed Shaun McRae as head coach in June.

He said: “Leaving the club has been an extremely difficult decision to make, but I feel that the time is right.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Reds and would like to thank everyone associated with the club and all the fans for their continued support.”

Reds chief executive David Tarry added: “James will be as ambitious in his coaching career as he was in his playing career and being overlooked as head coach at Salford City Reds has obviously unsettled him.

“We wish him well and thank him for his valuable contribution at the club.”

Tenth-placed Warrington travel to Huddersfield tomorrow in the engage Super League (kick-off 3pm).

Kevin Penny (dead leg) and Mark Gleeson (head) are Wolves doubts after suffering injuries at Catalans Dragons last week. Stuart Reardon (knee) and Paul Johnson (back) face fitness tests but Vinnie Anderson (back) and Martin Gleeson (knee) are out. But Ben Westwood is available after no action was taken over the high tackle that was placed on report in Perpignan.

Former Wests Tigers utility back Shane Elford is close to returning for the Giants after successful rehabilitation from a shoulder operation. Martin Aspinwall (back) and Eorl Crabtree (virus) are back in contention.
