TENNIS: ONE of Merseyside’s greatest sporting personalities, the former Lawn Tennis Association president Jim Cochrane, has died at his Wirral home after a short illness, aged 79.
Cochrane, a master at Mostyn House School, was an influential sports administrator, serving the LTA for many years as well as being chairman of Lancashire and president of the Northern Club in Manchester.
He helped organise the famous tournament at the Hightown club for many years.
