Sailing: Regatta blown out

STRONG winds hit the Port Dinorwic Regatta on Saturday at the end of the first half of the Menai Strait Fortnight, with only a few yachts competing and others heading straight back to Beaumaris due a poor forecast.

John Burthem led the Falcon fleet aboard Hawk for a first success during the Festival to claim the Vaynol Challenge Cup. Other winners were Callum Roberts in the Squib Zircon, Rob Evans in the Fife Elin and Doug Hardie in the Menai One Design Suzanne.

Crews will hope for better conditions for the Menai Bridge Boat Club Regatta today (noon).
