Snooker: Lawler in whitewash

LIVERPOOL’S Rod Lawler had plenty to smile about yesterday as he cruised into the second round of qualifying for this season’s SAGA Insurance Masters.

The former International Open runner-up whitewashed Essex cueman Jimmy Robertson in the first round at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

“I played really well. As soon as I got the first frame under my belt, I felt comfortable,” said Lawler, who now locks horns with Belfast prospect Mark Allen tomorrow morning.

Widnes’s Andrew Higginson joined Lawler in the second round with a 4-1 victory over Joe Jogia.
