Snooker: Lawler fails to qualify

LIVERPOOL’S Rod Lawler suffered disappointment yesterday as he failed in his bid to qualify for this season’s SAGA Insurance Masters tournament.

The provisional world No 45 slipped to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Belfast young gun Mark Allen in their second round meeting at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Widnes professional Andrew Higginson impressed in a comfortable 5-1 win over Cardiff cueman Paul Davies.

He came from 1-0 down to book his place in the last 16 phase of qualifying.
