Rugby Union: Blues end rival’s run

NEW BRIGHTON turned in an excellent all round display as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Stockport.

It not only maintained their unbeaten record in North Two West League but also put them into the semi-finals of the Lees Cheshire Cup, after the clubs agreed to make it a double header. Stephen Dean, after being just short with an eighth minute penalty from near the halfway line, made no mistake with an angled strike moments later.

The home side added a try on 32 minutes with Mike Gallimore making a half break from a scrum and Gareth Simpson forcing his way over near the corner.

A Dean penalty two minutes after the break added to the advantage. There was no real sign of a Stockport comeback and the Blues struck again in the 72nd minute with John Brotherton working his way over. Brighton have now won four and drawn once.
