Snooker: Liverpool duo denied

LIVERPOOL potters John Parrott and Rod Lawler both fell at the first hurdle at this year’s Northern Ireland Trophy.

Veteran Parrott squandered 3-0 and 4-2 leads in a disappointing 5-4 defeat to Romford cueman Mark King yesterday, while Lawler was thumped 5-1 by local favourite Mark Allen at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Sunday.

Defeat for former world champion Parrott was particularly frustrating having impressed with a 5-2 tournament qualifying win over Scot Drew Henry.

“It’s disappointing to have lost,” admitted Parrott. “I played really well in qualifying and I was hitting the ball lovely.”
