Mersey clubs to team up

LIVERPOOL Yacht Club has voted overwhelmingly to form an alliance with Tranmere Sailing Club.

Tranmere, whose clubhouse is sited at Rock Ferry, will be putting forward a similar motion to their members later this month and it seems sure to be adopted.

“An alliance will enable both clubs to increase the profile of sailing on the Mersey while safeguarding the name, headquarters, access rights and history of both clubs,” said Liverpool Commodore Derek Sparks.

West Kirby Sailing Club came out on top in the Oxford Magnum team racing competition, beating Renegades 2-0 in the final. The club’s youth team won the Liverpool Lash, organised by Liverpool University Sailing Club, without losing a race. That included wins over Cambridge and Newcastle.
