WALLASEY Gymnastic Club celebrated Christmas early this month when they were presented with awards by Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Wallasey, Leah Fraser.
The councillor also presented a special award to gymnasts Stephanie Rimmer, 16, and Shannon Williams, 12, who both won gold medals at the British Gymnastics Finals.
Fraser presented the duo each with a signed photograph of Amir Khan – complete with a personal message from the boxer, who won his fight in 72 seconds against Graham Earl last Saturday.
Wallasey have won 52 medals this year and now have 25 coaches and four judges to guide more than 90 gymnasts in three squads. The club also has three squads of young gymnasts, aged five and up – bringing the total number of pupils at the club to more than 1,000.
James Mullholland, of Wallasey Gymnastic Club, said: “It’s been quite a start for a club that was just a dream only 12 months ago. The club would like to thank all our sponsors and helpers.”
