Badminton: St Helens badminton club nets Premier status

SUTTON Junior Badminton Club in St Helens has been awarded a Premier Club Mark for its professional and quality coaching for budding players.

Linda Eccleston, of the club, explained the award: “The creditation confirms we are a well managed and well run club, with child issues high on the agenda.”

The Mark also means that the club takes both equality and child protection issues seriously, in full support of St Helens Council’s Sports Development Team.

The high standard of training for children has recently been joined by a 16 and above section so they can continue playing “We are a family club,” she said. “We recently opened a senior section as parents wanted their children to be able to move up from the juniors when they reached 16.”

The club has been running for over three years, and has two Y10 and three Y12 teams in the Liverpool League and one in the U16 St Helens Junior League. The latter have won their league for two successive years.

The recently-added senior setup is now part of the St Helens & District Badminton League, with a team in each of the mixed and men’s leagues.
