Snooker: Higginson happy to face Stevens

SNOOKER: Widnes potter Andrew Higginson admitted that he was “over the moon” to have a shot at Matthew Stevens in today’s final qualifying round for the China Open.

Higginson squeezed past China’s Liu Chuang 5-3 at Prestatyn yesterday, coming from 3-1 down. He is now one match from Beijing. He joked: “I’ve won a match. I’m over the moon because his potting was unbelievable.”

John Parrott is also one step from heading to Beijing after he white-washed Chinese youngster Liu Song 5-0. He faces Barry Hawkins at the Pontin’s Holiday Park this morning.
