Snooker: Higginson stays positive in defeat

SNOOKER: Widnes’s Andrew Higginson says he will not let yesterday’s China Open qualifying defeat to Matthew Stevens affect him.

The 30 year-old lost 5-4 at the Pontin’s Holiday Park in Prestatyn by the Welsh former World Championships finalist. And he is now preparing for the possibility of facing the Whirlwind Jimmy White in Monday’s final qualifying for next month’s Welsh Open. He said: “I can’t go away too disappointed. It was a great game, which I really enjoyed, but it is just a shame I lost.”

John Parrott also tasted defeat, going down 5-1 to Barry Hawkins.
